Welcome to
the wonderful world of the Hucclecote Creatures
a book based on a real secret garden in Hucclecote, Gloucestershire, UK, which has been developed into a community garden

“If we and the rest of the backboned animals were to disappear overnight, the rest of the world would get on pretty well. But if they were to disappear, the land's ecosystems would collapse. The soil would lose its fertility. Many of the plants would no longer be pollinated. Lots of animals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals would have nothing to eat. And our fields and pastures would be covered with dung and carrion. These small creatures are within a few inches of our feet, wherever we go on land but often, they're disregarded. We would do very well to remember them.” Sir David Attenborough (Life in the Undergrowth)

Read the Haiku and the thought behind them
The stories in the book are meant to be meaningful for children and adults. They contain struggles and triumphs. Some are happy and some sad
The author of the book is certainly no poet but has always liked poetry and having discovered Haiku has tried his hand at embodying the stories with a Haiku at the end of each one. If these are a success it is for the reader to decide. Readers are invited to comment in the Forum or even contribute their own compositions.
